Slender, purple lilacs beckoned invitingly to a gray and overcast sky, dancing for the pleasure and pain held back by the sultry, moody clouds overhead. Those keepers of light and water and life, able to alter the mood with a quick shower, and, this time, wholly unsatisfied with the dances of the flowers of the field. Slowly the lilacs waved their farewell as our bus flew by, another patch of purple beauty behind while others lay ahead, joining their brethern in a continuing supplication.

Sleep phased in and out, up and down, periodic waverings of consciousness while the world flies by, beautiful purples, dulling grays, smoke stacks and trailer trucks, all the way until Boston becomes home.
