I got to wondering about the whole 'dog years' thing. What kind of sense does it make that dogs have a different measurement for years than humans? An earth year is about 365.24 days long, measured according to the earth's orbit around the sun - so is the implication that dogs are from an entirely different planet? Who came up with this '7 human years for one dog year' rule? What on earth is a dog year supposed to be? How did they figure out there were seven of them? What about the rest of the species in the world, how many Drosophila melanogaster years are there in 365 days?
