I don't recall ever seeing a movie as positive as Big Fish. You'll notice that lots of people are smiling all the time during the entire film -- and the story revolves around a dying man. It isn't perfect (here's one case where a larger budget for good computer graphics would have been a wise investment), but it is without blatant conceit or dishonesty, two things which make most Hollywood happy pictures fall sadly flat. It's uplifting without being saccharine.

Big Fish is the first movie I've seen in a long, long time where I could be carried along with the story without being dropped by poor special effects or acting. And that's what I'm looking for.
