My last entry referred to a CNN article titled something like "Crack found in space shuttle." Now Slashdot is running this story called "Spielberg Denied Crack at Star Wars." I don't think about drugs much, but these people are just titling their stories wrong.

I'm doing some more nerdy stuff. Some of it is exploring RDF Site Summary (RSS). Basically, any site with news can have its news feed syndicated for others to read off and display. This was popular for awhile when netscape.com was running a portal and trying to propagate and enforce the RSS standard (which was conceived by Dan Connolly, one of the guys at W3C). But the Netscape portals died, and RSS is often no longer supported or supported incorrectly by the major players. Fortunately, some folks are doing some painful screen scraping and creating third party RSS feeds. All that verbosity means I'll eventually have news feeds available on ryanlee.org, and I'll probably be the only one using them, but hey, it will be cool. Or something.

The other thing was some Perl fun, trying to turn some data from Microshaft Word documents into a predetermined HTML template (so no, it isn't as easy as just saving as HTML, thank you). I thought it might be harder because, hey, it's Microsloth, they hate everybody who touches computers who doesn't use their crappy software - heck, they probably hate everybody considering their software - but that part was actually easy. The more difficult part is using an ugly template without trying to make it look better... Snobby me...

Sorry, have to nerd out in the journal every once in awhile.
