Synergy allows you to move your mouse pointer between two computers. Wherever your mouse is, there also is your keyboard input. Just when I thought I was getting burnt out on computers, along comes a fun toy. Now I can check up on how stuff looks in Internet Explorer just by putting another PC within viewing distance, on the network, running Synergy software. Maybe I'll get burnt out faster now.

The Windows machine appears to have some true utility again, so it was time to get it into shape. That latest version of Internet Explorer is out; though, as is the case historically, IE7 will replace IE6 when installed. There are some excessively complex tricks to get them to run together, and then there's Multiple IE. I'd report on the utility of this brilliantly-conceived package (which, thanks to my Mac-induced ADD, is the only one I'm willing to try because it looks like a one-click install); however, I can't. Because I need to upgrade the operating system to service pack 2 to install IE7. I went to try that newfangled Windows Update site. Didn't offer me SP2. I went to download it manually. Several times I tried to download it, clearing cache between each effort. Always it failed to extract. What, on a Mac, would have taken only as long as it takes to download a patch and run it, has taken hours, and it still isn't done.

Did I mention burn out?

Instead, I downloaded it on a Mac, then transferred it over to the PC. It may be coincidental, but I shall refuse to be the least bit surprised that it worked.
