Karen Cummings, 2 Kings 3, The Big Dig. For some reason, this message flew by timewise. Here are all the major points; they don't require elaborating in my mind. Briefly, 2 Kings 3 is about a three rulers who are about to embark on a war. They do things foolishly and run out of water, but, good for them, one of the three turns to a prophet of God to see what they should do. Elisha tells them to dig trenches in the middle of the valley in the desert. God then fills those trenches with water. Read the rest of the passage to find out what happens. Side points are to try not to do things all out of order foolishly, and look for a word from God when you're in distress. Mainly, you must prepare for blessings in your life (dig trenches). If you aren't prepared for a blessing, God won't have anywhere to put it. These preparations are temporary discomforts (digging trenches in the desert) towards permanent change. And they take time, people, and resources. On a related but not really note, I picked up my James Boyce monster-sized book (Foundations of the Christian Faith) and let an hour fly by while reading his observations on man's sinful nature. I don't think I can make it to Bible study today because of this beautiful snow storm, so hey, I might as well study some more on my own. Which also reminds me that I have too many books on my plate. I've left Moby Dick and The Confessions of St. Augustine unfinished whilst picking up The Idiot and Boyce's work, and I should probably read through the PT member guide and buy the doctrine book they're using for Bible studies. Man. The eyes are hungrier than the brain or the schedule can handle. I think I'm going to have to clean off at least part of that plate before I get into the other things I've been wanting to read or study lately. |
