Tony mentioned he recently started keeping a list of things he wanted to do and learn. Good idea, I thought I'd try. These are all somewhat frivolous though, I could die a happy man having done none of them.

  • Play the cello on a solo basis
  • Train in edged weapons, like escrima
  • Find someone in that wide world who knows how to use a naginata and wants to teach me
  • Properly learn to play bass guitar
  • Cook Japanese style
  • Visit Paris, New Zealand, Tuscany, Madrid, Tokyo
  • Train in throwing people, like aikido
  • Go back and get that black belt in taekwondo
  • Learn to read Koine Greek, ancient Hebrew, Aramaic
  • Play hockey correctly
  • Compose a literary work

throwing people?

You should start throwing small people. Like hobbitses.

Edged weapons? nice.

All those things...

All those things you are trying to do are good and sound like fun except throwing people and training in edged weapon. Just the thought of those scared me. Would you please skip those two?

Tricksy. They...

Tricksy. They be tricksy hobbits, too.

I think you get to throw around the master in aikido, so no worries there. If you look up escrima online, you'll find the sticks they use to practice the art. Which isn't bad either, since you can pick up sticks almost anywhere to use in a combat situation (whereas swords, three part staffs, and nunchakus are kind of hard to come by on a day-to-day basis).
