Pastor Brian Greene, Esther 4, God-Centered Life. See last week's notes, they're the "don't do this" as opposed to the "do this" of this week's notes. Pastor Brian's been talking a lot lately about waiting on God, even when it feels like we should get up and do something. I guess our church is at a point where it feels like, if we were in charge, we would be doing certain things -- but it seems God would rather we let Him do it this time. A God-centered life is marked by: self denial (cf. last week), seeking first the rule of God and what He says is right, seeking God's perspective in every circumstance, having a life focused on God and His activity, and dependence on God and His ability and provision. Sometimes it looks like it's going to be just so easy for us to get where we need or want to go on our own, for us to guess at how exactly God's going to take care of things. And usually those times He wants to disabuse us of the notion that we really know what to do or how to get there, really because He'd rather do it for us. We have to join Him in what He's doing and follow His lead if we really want to get there. On another note, I got a call from a friend who I've found out, for this time in our lives, is walking down a very similar road. It's nice to know I'm not walking completely down a deserted path, and it's good to know we're not totally crazy; or at least we're both crazy, and that's a good enough illusion for now. Thanks :) I started a reading list. I'd love to hear suggestions of things to read. While there's a good set of theology or faith-oriented books on the list, I do enjoy a good read, with a particular bent on science fiction and biographies of interesting people. |
