freekobe.com and its brethern make face value claims of supporting American freedoms and some degree of impartiality while also claiming that Kobe should be untouchable ("Because we're running out of heroes," slogans freekobe.com). Apparently most of these are profiteering opportunists, but mostly I wanted to pick on the 'hero' label.

Kobe should go on trial. We give our celebrities too much leeway. Don't make an example out of him, don't slap him on the wrists like a kid. Try him. For real. This is just a celebrity, no more or less than any other citizen in the eyes of the law. Teachers. Firefighters. Police officers. Pastors. Those are the places to look for heroes. They live life, they lead others to live it better. Professional sportsmen? They live a commercial. Oh, he's good, he's incredibly good. But he's no hero.
