Some genius finally got Xv for the neomagic driver working in X. For my little machine, this required downloading a good chunk out of the XFree86 CVS tree, tweaking the provided Makefile, and changing a header file to get the ABI versions lined up (total cheat on my part, you're definitely not supposed to do that). That was a nice distraction for a day or so. It means I can, or should be able to, watch DVDs and other things in their full screen glory under Linux, though Ogle gave me the ability to do that before, just at the wrong resolution. (Oops - don't tell the MPAA I watch DVDs under Linux, I'm not supposed to be able to watch the DVDs I purchased in the DVD player on the machine I purchased just because I don't run Windows...stupid MPAA) I also managed to get an XML version of the NAS Bible, extracted from bible.gospelcom.net. I think that will eventually prove itself useful; then again, putting it into a RDBMS would probably make it even more useful. Dunno, I guess we'll see. At least I can grep a set of files and find verses with keywords more easily now. I think I'll set up a poll sometime, 'Is Ryan too nerdy?' |
