Mechaiah: So, what book is that you're holding? Me: John Adams' biography. Tammy: Are you reading that because you have to or... for fun? Me: (pause to ponder when the last time was that I read something because I had to) For fun. Me: (watching Tammy's reaction mix between disgust and bemusement) Want to borrow it after I'm done? Tammy: (continues reaction) Uh, no thank you. (Sorry if I spelled Mechaiah wrong) I'm sure Tammy thinks I'm crazy. By the way, the John Adams book is good. I know why my cousin thinks so highly of him now, he's currently tied with Lincoln at the top of my list of favorite presidents (which is naturally not a very long list anyways...). The dilemma afterwards will be whether to read more of Adams or more of the present author, David McCullough. |

I like Nerds!
Glad to know that you are expanding your mind through voluntarily reading books that others see as "too difficult", "too bothersome" or "too boring" to read. Kudos to you!

Nerd at MIT, n...
Nerd at MIT, nerd for reading history and biography. I don't ever win, do I.
The John Adams book used to be on the New York Times bestseller list, and it won a Pulitzer, so it's not so difficult to read as much as uninteresting to most people (but it shouldn't be!).
