On an eight hour flight from Boston to London, you lose five hours, so it makes some sense to just stay awake from one day to the next, giving you around a thirty hour day. If you travel at the right time, you'll hit British Summer Time, which means you lose another hour the day after you arrive. Another five days later, it's time to fly back, whereupon you gain six hours, so it makes some sense to just stay awake from five o'clock until around five o'clock BST to make sure your internal clock adjusts properly. The day after, of course, the East Coast switches to Eastern Daylight Time, where you lose one hour. The body's a little confused. |
