A man has to stand for something. His cause outlives him and gives meaning to his life. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., and civil rights in America. Thomas Jefferson and the fomentors of the American Revolution, formally instated through the Declaration of Independence. Mahatma Gandhi and the autonomy of India achieved through peaceful resistance. Abraham Lincoln and the unity of all the states. Napoleon Bonaparte and the domination of Europe, Genghis Kahn and the domination of Asia, Saladin and the domination of the cradle of civilization.

I thought I'd write a little on what I stand for, starting with Jesus, the one man who stood for Himself and changed the world. Whose reputation and cause live on because He lives on. Here is a man whose dream was dying, whose goal in life had nothing to do with His own achievements or accomplishments and everything to do with everybody else who ever lived. Whose name is above all names, one to which every knee will bow and every tongue confess that He is Lord and God. And He is good. Would that I could be like Him, but I am glad I know Him. I'm not outlining a systematic theology, only a relationship I am ever thankful began and has continued to where it is today. There have been ups and downs, but I've learned about me and about Him, learned to accept His unalterable love and love Him back, and I know of no more worthy cause to stand for than Christ, the son of God who died and came back to life so I could be free to live.

He isn't the easiest to stand for, from personal moral and ethical questions to theological conundrums to the interpersonal handling of relationships to the public living in a country with a spectrum of views on religion in general and Christ in particular. But He is worth it.
