I'm moving to Central Square in a week. My current landlord is apparently rather aggravated that I didn't tell him I'd be moving the day after my lease expires. As I see it, he knows I'm moving out, and he knows someone else is moving in, so if it's ok with my current roommates to wait a day, then everybody should be satisfied. If we've already taken care of everything, why does he care so much about the details?

Apparently this is not satisfactory, partly because he wasn't told exactly when I'd move out (which I didn't even find out for certain until yesterday). I can see when you might want to know someone will be trouncing up and down the stairs, but that's about it. In my opinion, I become a guest of my roommates when my lease expires, and I'll be completely gone within about twelve hours afterwards. He also insists that it's no longer possible to get a lease signed for before the next period starts in September, but I guess I'm too ignorant to see why that's the case since there are still five days left in the month. Does the new guy have to be moved in or do I have to be moved out before a new lease can be signed?

I guess he was too angry or too tired to finish the conversation tonight (and I think I've been passive-aggressively banned from packing after 10:30PM since it makes too much noise and he has to wake up at 4:30 to go to work). We'll see if he insists I move out a day early. In the meantime, I can't tell if I've violated some sort of lessee protocol. None of us are clear on why he cares so much about the details of what's going to happen if we've already taken care of it. I'll find out.
