Does anybody have a soldering iron? Oh for home, where Dad had one just lying around so he could fix garage door openers and the like. My need is not pressing, but, having given up on one of my CRTs five years ago due to brightness issues, I've just discovered (while looking for disassembly instructions to possibly convert it to a fish tank) that I can fix it myself for a couple of dollars. It's rather exciting, I just need the assistance of a soldering iron. I don't understand why a circuit's performace degrades to the point where you need to decrease the resistance, or why Sony would manufacture something so poorly that the on-board 'brightness' control couldn't compensate for gradual degradation, but there you go. Sony builds crappy equipment that I can reclaim or repurpose for fractions of the original cost. I guess that's not so bad.

Now if only they sold stuff that did what it was supposed to without hacking they could actually get some faithful customers.
