This piece by The Times is overly simplistic and distinctly short sighted. Even if every reported fact is true, from the odd recalcitrance to issue a correction, to the revelation that plastic bags don't choke quite that much marine life, I strongly doubt the British government's movements and scientific basis rest solely on one report. They can retract their claim and simultaneously put forth more substantive research on the entry of plastic to our global food chain - to which the one-time use plastic bag is undoubtedly a contributor.

I'll assume The Times is a Tory-favored publication and that this write up is a puff piece of political weaponry against Labour. I don't see any other way to explain why something so small and mean would get published.
