The original Mario Kart was released for the Super Nintendo (successor to the original NES) in 1992 to great acclaim. Every single successive Nintendo console and handheld since has its own version of what is essentially the exact same game. The media format of each new generation is different, and up until the Wii, totally backwards incompatible. - a business strategy, to be sure. Yet if you're anything like me (and I suspect most are in this respect), we keep buying the same game over and over. If there is a new generation console from Nintendo coming out and I happen to purchase it, you can bet I'll buy the next Mario Kart edition and spend a month or two obsessing over unlocking it in its entirety. I did it with the GameCube edition, and today I finally achieved a two-star rating on every grand prix course (I unlocked all the hidden parts last month). I won't be taking the time to reach three-star on everything, and to keep from being hooked on the game, it's probably not a good idea to get into online racing. I should probably sell it back to GameStop along with my now useless PS2 games and pick up... I don't know. Any Wii recommendations? |
