Following on my previous vague entry about mapping people, here's a map of people plus all the Motel 6 locations in connection states where I don't seem to know anybody.

With the help of Piggy Bank's JavaScript harvesting architecture, I wrote up a quick harvester (harvester index) that took advantage of Motel 6's website and the rather interesting feature they have of latitude and longitude coordinates for each chain location. Oddly enough, the programmatic manipulations to reach that data are far easier than reaching the human friendly phone numbers and street addresses.

Map of people and Motel 6 locales

The blue markers are Motel 6 locations, the red my people. I haven't gotten locations for western states because I didn't want to obfuscate the folks as I did in the Texas region (100+ hotels versus three people, and the people flags lost).

By the way, if you don't see a flag on here that looks like you, send me your address. Take a wild guess as to why I'm mapping all of you and the hotels in between...

link to N3 missing

hi ryan, do you think you could include the necessary <link> to the N3 scraper description in the header of this page, so people can install your scraper? at the moment PB only retrieves your linked FOAF data, but doesn't pick up the normal href's to the scraper and its profile. looking ++good, though!

thanks! k.

Hi Karsten, than...

Hi Karsten, thanks for dropping by. None of the FOAF data used in my example is publically available, all you're picking up in PB when you visit this entry is my normal FOAF file (bragging about who I know, etc.). However, you should be able to get the Motel 6 scraper just by clicking on the N3 link. Piggy Bank should be aware that that RDF is directly available to it even without a <link> element in-page.

My wild guess is that you're planning a cross country driving trip!

One of those red flags looks suspiciously like it's on Berkeley, California... :) When are you heading west?

I think I will be delaying a full on road trip until a later time, though I might end up driving a bit for work purposes, if they think that's worthwhile (well, cheap). Unfortunately not all the way out west; not yet, at least.

I'll let you all know when I actually get a road worthy vehicle.
