It worked. For the most part; I could do with an 8 or 9 MOhm resistor instead, to get the sum resistance down even further; the monitor's beautifully usable at 0 brightness and 100 contrast, but that's obviously just pushing at the envelope. It will probably need to be re-resoldered with a lower resistance in another couple of years. I'll crack open the other monitor tomorrow, the hack should be an even better fix since its performance hasn't degraded as badly as the one I repaired tonight. Now to find a buyer. I picked up a cheap sewing kit today and hand-hemmed some fabric, the first time I've stitched anything in quite some time, not counting that time I sutured the tears in my jeans shut - which is a different kind of sewing altogether anyways. One side (1.5 yards) is basically straight, the other's a bit more sinusoidal. Overall, not bad for having been out of practice. |
